Sleeping Problems

Sometimes I think that being cute is a baby's defense mechanism. How can you stay upset with them for too long when they just grin at you every time they do something naughty or exasperating? Well, bedtime at our house is becoming a time when his cuteness is what saves him and me from losing it. Bedtime is beginning to be quite an ordeal at our house ever since Tel has discovered his freedom to get himself wherever he wants to be. He does not, and most nights, will not, settle down and go to sleep although I can tell he is exhausted. We try all the bedtime routines and everything else, but he refuses to just lay still or hold still long enough to relax and fall asleep. Then, once he does fall asleep, usually in my arms or lying next to me on the bed, he wakes up again as soon as I set him in his crib. We have tried the cry it out method and he can scream up a storm for over an hour and a half and not even be close to settling down. Eventually, we do get him to go to bed and get him in his crib, but then, for the past couple weeks he has been waking up in the night, sometimes only once, but when he does it takes me 2 hours or so to get him back to sleep and into his crib. I don't know what is going on for sure. He had some ear infections that we have given him an antibiotic for and he doesn't seem like they are bothering him during the day and is not pulling at them like he used to when he gets up in the night. So I am at a loss. If any of you out there have any suggestions or have had similar problems and found something that works, your advice would be greatly appreciated. All I can say is that it's a good thing he's so dang cute!!!

Tami,

Wish I could help on the sleep issues. avery was the best little sleeper until she hit 18 months, now she doesn't like to take naps and plays in her crib for like 2 hrs every night, then I have to drag her out of bed in the morning. This happens every day! So annoying. All i can say to help is that they have stages, so I'm sure sooner or later Tel will enter a stage where he will sleep a little better. I also like the book Healthy sleep habits, healthy child. It helped with some of our current issues. Good luck, I hope you get more sleep sometime soon!

Tami, I can't believe how big you boy is. He is so cute. Your blog is awesome. I love all the pictures. Sorry I can't help much with the sleep troubles either, but I will tell you Annali falls asleep in my arms at night and doesn't go down on her own. She will play in her crib forever. I am hoping when she gets older she will go down on her own but I know I am enableing the situation. I'm sure it will come.

Hey, Tami!! I just figured out that your link was on Shari's blog!! Your little boy is so darn cute! He is definitely a Teichert. I wish I could give some great advice about babies sleeping. I should have it figured out by now!!! All of our kids have gone through stages where they do great and then where they regress a little and struggle! I about pull my hair out, but somehow we finally get it worked through. Good luck and I'm glad I found your blog!!
